Expert therapist for the hit reality series "Married at First Sight: The First Years," former team psychiatrist for the Brooklyn Nets, author of the self help book, "Reinvent Yourself: Essential Tools from a Brooklyn Psychiatrist Who Has Seen It All," and producer of the Academy Award nominated short film "Feeling Through," Dr. Lops is known for being a "therapist's psychiatrist." He is Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. All clients receive some form of therapy because all of us have the ability to benefit from further tool building or support. Dr. Lops realizes that upon initial assessment, symptoms of anxiety, depression, or ADHD/disruptive behaviors maybe so significant that to do "the work" a trial of medication can be beneficial. Dr. Lops is an expert in pharmacology and uses in his practice pharmacogenetic testing to assess for adverse effects in patients who has a history of sensitivity to medication.
Dr. Lops focuses on goals and identifying what is getting in the way of one being their best self. Dr. Lops grew up with a tremendous amount of separation anxiety and had to learn how to overcome those childhood developmental challenges to achieve many of my life's dreams that are part of my fortunate successes listed above. As a parent myself, a large part of my child work with my patients and my children is focused on working to minimize as much of the barriers in the way for the child to flourish and get to know their authentic self.
Dr. Lops assesses for a role in cognitive restructuring, mindfullness work, parent training, executive functioning deficits in his clients, as well as acknowledge if there are significant psychosocial stressors that would benefit from exploration or support. Furthermore, factors such as exercise, diet, yoga, massage therapy, hormones, and breathing techniques play a role in the work and recommendations.
Dr. Lops has been named a 2015 Rising Star through Superdoctors.com http://www.superdoctors.com/new-york-metro/Brooklyn/Psychiatry/browse
